Want to take more photos, but short of inspiration? Photo Friday is proof that a well-executed, simple idea beats all your fancy web 2.0 stuff hands down.
Each week Photo Friday posts a photo assignment. Your mission is the creative interpretation of the week’s theme. When you’re done, post the picture you took to your website and submit your link to Photo Friday.
Photo Friday is about challenging the participants to be original and creative within the constraints of the week’s theme. It’s not a competition. Anyone with a camera and a place on the internet to post pictures can participate.
You simply fill in a form with a link to your photo, and it will be displayed in a list (the ‘Link Viewer’) which allows visitors to view your entry.
Are you Noteworthy?
Noteworthy links are chosen by visitor vote. Each week between 12:01am Friday and 11:59pm Sunday CST (UTC-0600) a ‘cast noteworthy vote’ link will appear in the header frame of the Link Viewer for the previous week’s challenge. Click the link to cast your vote.
The six photo links with the most votes will be published to Noteworthy the following Monday.
You can vote as often as you like – and for as many different sites as you like, including your own – but only one vote per site per visitor will be counted.
Take More Photos!
Participating in something like Photo Friday is a great way to give you ideas (and a deadline!), and definitely works as means of getting you to take more photos. Having a theme you need to photograph for can be challenging, but it gets you to think about the topic and get creative. I now regularly take part, and it’s got me out of my ‘safe zone’ and trying new subjects.
Great article Mike. I have been past Photo Friday's site before, but this was a timely reminder to perhaps check them out in more detail- and actually PARTICIPATE – in an effort to challenge myself.
